Bengaluru Court summons TN Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin over 'Sanatana Dharma' remarks

Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has been summoned by the Special Court of People's Representatives in Bengaluru in connection with his controversial remarks on 'Sanatana Dharma.'

The summons comes following a complaint lodged by Bengaluru resident Paramesh, and Udhayanidhi is required to appear in person for the hearing scheduled on March 4.

Last year, Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, sparked controversy when he likened Sanatana Dharma to "dengue" and "malaria." At a conference in September 2023, he asserted that Sanatana Dharma opposes social justice and equality, and should be "eradicated."

Despite facing criticism for his remarks, Udhayanidhi Stalin remained firm in his stance, declaring his perpetual opposition to Sanatana Dharma. Advocate Dharmapal, representing complainant Paramesh, highlighted the minister's consistent reaffirmation of his statement, emphasising his intention to face the matter in court.

Advocate Dharmapal stated, "Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin partook in an event opposing Sanatana Dharma. He made a comment about Sanatana Dharma, claiming that it has to be driven out like dengue and malaria. After that, he has been sticking to the stand and reiterating the same statement. He said that he will face it in the court as well."

The court summons follows a complaint filed by Paramesh, citing the minister's comments as offensive to the sentiments of those following Hindu Dharma, especially during a time marked by increased devotion and awareness due to events like the Ram Mandir inauguration.

The court has mandated Udhayanidhi Stalin's appearance on March 4, addressing the concerns raised by the complainant.
