Political clashes escalate in Andhra Pradesh amid alleged attacks

Tensions continue to rise in Andhra Pradesh as the YSRCP and TDP leadership engage in verbal sparring following alleged incidents of stone-pelting during their election campaigns. The focal point of the dispute revolves around an attack on YSRCP leader and Andhra Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Vijayawada.

The police have intensified their investigation into the attack that occurred at Daba Kotlu Centre in Singh Nagar, Vijayawada, during a power outage on Saturday. The TDP has challenged the state government to initiate a comprehensive probe into the incident.

Reports suggest that the assailants targeted the chief minister's convoy near Vivekananda School Centre, leading to injuries to Jagan Mohan Reddy and Vijayawada West MLA Vellampalli Srinivas. Visuals circulated on social media captured the moment of the attack, showing Jagan Mohan Reddy sustaining an injury above his eye.

Law enforcement officials have detained several individuals in connection with the incident and are treating it as an attempted murder on the chief minister. A special investigation team has been tasked with identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.

In response, the TDP has petitioned the Election Commission for a CBI inquiry, citing security lapses and alleging bias in previous investigations involving political attacks. Former Rajya Sabha member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar has urged for the transfer of key police officials for their alleged failure in ensuring adequate security.

Despite the incident, Jagan Mohan Reddy resumed his campaign, with heightened security measures in place. However, restrictions have been imposed on public displays of affection, such as showering flower petals or presenting giant garlands.

Meanwhile, TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu has vowed to uncover the truth behind the attack, drawing parallels to previous security challenges he faced during his tenure as chief minister. He criticised the handling of security arrangements and insinuated potential involvement of political rivals in the attack.

The political landscape in Andhra Pradesh remains tense, with both parties exchanging accusations and demanding thorough investigations into the recent incidents. The ongoing electoral fervour adds to the complexity of the situation as campaigning intensifies ahead of crucial polls in the state.
