Man arrested in connection with fake video of HM Amit Shah; Delhi Police summons Telangana CM

Assam Police made an arrest related to the fabricated video involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah, as confirmed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday.

The individual, identified as Reetom Singh, was apprehended following complaints from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the BJP regarding the tampered video circulating on social media, allegedly shared by Congress leaders.

The Delhi Police Special Cell has initiated a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the IT Act.

Sinku Sharan Singh, DC of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), filed a complaint citing doctored videos on social media aimed at inciting disharmony among communities, potentially disrupting public tranquillity and order. The complaint included links to the shared videos for further investigation.

In a related development, Delhi Police has summoned Telangana CM Revanth Reddy to appear on May 1 in connection with the case. Reddy has been asked to bring along the mobile phone allegedly used to share the fake video on X, according to sources.

The BJP's complaint alleged that the doctored video portrayed Amit Shah promising to abolish reservation for SCs, STs, and OBCs in Telangana. It further claimed that the video was shared by official Telangana Congress handles and other party state units, subsequently reposted by several party leaders.

A team from Delhi Police Cyber Cell has departed for Telangana to issue notices to social media handles responsible for posting the altered video.

The BJP's Andhra Pradesh unit lodged the complaint, urging state Election Commission officials to take action, including blocking the X account of the Congress. The complaint highlighted that the Home Minister's original speech during an election rally in Telangana was manipulated to falsely suggest opposition to SCs, STs, and OBCs reservations.
