Former INC leader Sanjay Nirupam criticises party's internal discord, expulsion amid power struggles

Former Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, who claims to have submitted his resignation letter to the party president prior to his expulsion, criticised the Congress party, alleging it operates with five power centres. Addressing the disarray within the party, Nirupam described it as "completely scattered" with leaders engaged in internal clashes.

Nirupam elaborated on the Congress's organisational structure, contrasting it with its previous centralised power dynamics. "Earlier there was one centre of power within the Congress and there was a coterie and all the other leaders used to fight against them. Currently, you will be surprised to know that the Congress party has five power centres, "he stated, highlighting a fragmented leadership scenario.

Detailing these five power centres, Nirupam noted each centre’s distinct caucus and lobby, highlighting the resulting conflicts that have left party workers like him caught in the middle. He identified Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, and KC Venugopal as the key figures in these power dynamics.

Expressing disillusionment with the party's state of affairs, Nirupam mentioned, "those who were meritorious are in a poor state and is deteriorating. I was observing this for a couple of years, but then I lost my patience," he added.

He cited this deterioration as the primary reason for his resignation.

Nirupam also criticised the party's response to his resignation, quipping that they had "wasted an A-4 size paper" by expelling him after he had already resigned. He recounted sending his resignation letter to Kharge the previous night, leading to his expulsion and subsequent press conference.

His expulsion from the Congress came following allegations of indiscipline and anti-party statements, as stated by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal. This action resulted in Nirupam being removed from the list of star campaigners for the party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, particularly due to his remarks against the Shiv Sena during seat-sharing discussions.

In conclusion, Nirupam's expulsion underscores the ongoing internal challenges within the Congress party, highlighting the complexities of power struggles and ideological conflicts within political organisations.
