HM Amit Shah takes aim at Nehru, boasts BJP's defence record in Assam rally

In a fiery speech delivered during a public rally in Assam's Lakhimpur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah lambasted the previous central government, particularly targeting former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for allegedly neglecting Assam and Arunachal Pradesh during the 1962 Chinese aggression. Shah accused Nehru of leaving these regions "forsaken" during a critical period in history.

Shah talked about the contrasting situation under the current BJP-led government, highlighting that China has not been able to encroach on any Indian territory during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure. He credited the BJP's leadership for showing courage and preventing Chinese incursions, citing the Doklam standoff as an example where India stood firm against China for 45 days.

"They are talking about the culture of Assam now...the people of Assam and Arunachal will never forget the 1962 Chinese aggression. Nehru said 'bye-bye to Assam during that time. Now, the change is that China couldn't encroach a single inch of land under the Modi government. We showed some courage and stopped China for the 45 days in Doklam," Shah said.

Turning his attention to the upcoming elections, Shah urged voters to consider the BJP's track record and vision for Assam's development. He contrasted the BJP's promises with what he called the INDI alliance under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, positioning the BJP as the party capable of leading Assam towards becoming a developed state.

"...I want to tell you today that in the coming days, Assam will become a developed state like other states in the country...For years, the Congress party had left the Ram Mandir issue hanging. It was during PM Modi's time that the judgement came, 'bhoomi poojan' happened and finally, on January 22, the 'pranpratishtha' took place," he further added.

Shah also touched upon significant achievements under PM Modi's government, including the resolution of the Ram Mandir issue and bolstering India's border security with Bangladesh to curb infiltration.

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to be held in seven phases starting April 19, will see approximately 97 crore eligible voters across the country. The election results will be announced on June 4, marking a crucial moment in India's democratic process.
