Yadavendra Singh, the great-grandson of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, has voiced his opposition to Sunita Kejriwal delivering an address with the portrait of the revolutionary positioned alongside the photo of her imprisoned husband Arvind Kejriwal.
Singh was quoted by news agency ANI, stating, "If we look at the politics of today, it is turning personal. Politics is being done for personal benefit. Any leader should not be compared with him (Bhagat Singh). His contribution was for the country and the society. It wasn't personal.”
Following Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal's detention by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21, his wife Sunita has been issuing video statements while seated in the same chair her husband used for press briefings.
The backdrop of the chair displays portraits of Bhagat Singh and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. However, during her recent address, a photograph depicting Arvind Kejriwal behind bars was inserted between the portraits of Bhagat Singh and Ambedkar, sparking controversy.
Yadavendra Singh further highlighted that if the AAP had mistakenly arranged this setup, they should rectify it by removing Kejriwal's photo from between the portraits of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh.
Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised objections to the image, accusing the AAP of offending public sentiments.
"Kejriwal is a corruption accused and by putting up his photograph between those of patriots such as Shaheed-e-Azam (Bhagat Singh) and Dr Ambedkar, the AAP has insulted their dignity," BJP's Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva said.
Senior AAP leader Atishi defended the decision, attributing Kejriwal's imprisonment to what she termed as false accusations orchestrated by the BJP-led Centre. "Kejriwal is the symbol of the current struggle against the BJP's dictatorship. His photograph at our offices is to remind us that the struggle against the BJP is no less than the freedom movement," news agency PTI quoted her as saying.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently spoke on the remarkable shift in India's global perception, attributing it to the nation's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the successful Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission.
Addressing an event at Kirori Mal College, he highlighted the profound impact of India's domestic decisions on its global standing, stressing that the world keenly observes India's progress and choices.
EAM Jaishankar stated, "we are the largest country in the world. We are the fifth largest economy, soon we'll be the third. How we do at home is watched by everybody abroad. What decisions we make at home, is also very keenly followed by the world. So, if we are now in the coming weeks going to decide our future in whatever way we wish, it's not just a conversation amongst ourselves. It's a conversation or a discussion in which the other six billion people are also tuned in. These are all actually aspects of why Bharat matters."
Jaishankar remarked on the widespread fascination with India's technological achievements, particularly citing the Chandrayaan-3 mission and India's effective management of the pandemic as pivotal moments in the nation's recent history. He underlined the importance of India's ability to stand up for its interests, citizens, and culture, resonating with a global audience.
“Probably much more fascinating to the world is actually those technology feats that we do. I would say in the last 10 years, probably the most impactful thing we have done, other than COVID management, was going to the moon. The Chandrayaan-3 mission has had a huge impact on the perception of Indians abroad. And finally, as I said, a lot of it is about actually a country which has the ability to stand up for itself, for its interests, for its citizens, stand up to pressure, and in a sense, you know, radiate its own persona and its culture," the Rajya Sabha MP added.
Speaking about India's current global image, Jaishankar noted the nation's transformation from a country of concern to a source of substantial support during the pandemic. He commended India's efforts in securing its citizens worldwide, especially citing the successful evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine under Operation Ganga.
Highlighting the value of the Indian passport and the government's commitment to its citizens, Jaishankar talked about the importance of support systems for individuals in times of trouble. He shared insights on India's domestic achievements, such as infrastructure development and welfare schemes, showcasing the nation's progress on a global scale.
Jaishankar concluded by expressing optimism about India's future, noting the significant interest from the world in investing, knowing, and traveling in India. He also highlighted India's role in globalising and creating pathways for its talent and skill to contribute to a diverse and dynamic global workforce.

The victim, identified as 18-year-old Dinabandhu Midya, had been missing since Wednesday and was discovered hanging on Thursday night with visible injury marks on his body.
In a statement posted on social media, the West Bengal unit of the BJP referred to the TMC as a "Talibani (T) Party" with a motive to "Murder (M) by cruel (C) means." They highlighted the victim's identity as the son of Sudarshan Midya, an active BJP worker in Goramahal village. The BJP raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding Dinabandhu Midya's death, pointing out the presence of injury marks and the position of his body when found.
BJP MP Locket Chatterjee condemned the incident, attributing it to TMC "goons" and denouncing what she described as the TMC's "Talibani tactics" aimed at silencing opposition voices through brutality.
This unfortunate event unfolded during ongoing voting for the second phase in West Bengal, encompassing the constituencies of Darjeeling, Raiganj, and Balurghat. The incident resonates with past allegations by the BJP against the TMC, particularly during the panchayat polls last year, where the BJP accused the TMC of resorting to violent acts against them.

Yoga guru Ramdev and the managing director of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, Balkrishna, appeared before the Supreme Court on Tuesday, where they expressed their regret and issued an unqualified apology regarding the misleading advertisements case.
During the proceedings before a bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, Ramdev and Balkrishna's counsel informed the court that they had published the apology in various newspapers across the country. They further assured the bench that additional advertisements would be issued to tender an unqualified apology for their lapses.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Ramdev and Balkrishna, highlighted that the apology had been published in 67 newspapers nationwide on Monday.
The bench, acknowledging the apology, directed the counsel to submit the copies of the published apology in newspapers within two days. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on April 30.
This development comes after the apex court's warning to Ramdev and Balkrishna on April 16, cautioning them against any attempts to disparage allopathic medicine. The court had granted them a week to publicly apologise and demonstrate contrition in the contempt proceedings related to the misleading advertisements case against Patanjali Ayurved Ltd.
While allowing the opportunity for apology, the court also made it clear that this gesture did not absolve them of accountability yet.
The Supreme Court is currently addressing a plea filed in 2022 by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), alleging a smear campaign against the Covid vaccination drive and modern medical systems.

Patanjali Ayurved Ltd issues apology in misleading advertisements case

In a major development, 29 Naxals, including a prominent leader with a bounty of Rs 25 lakh on his head, were neutralised in a coordinated operation conducted by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) on Tuesday in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district.
The deceased Naxal leader identified as Shankar Rao was a key figure within the Naxal hierarchy, adding weight to the success of the operation. The encounter, although successful in eliminating a substantial number of Naxal insurgents, resulted in injuries to three security personnel.
Authorities have confirmed the recovery of 18 bodies from the site of the skirmish, with officials anticipating that this count may rise given the ongoing assessment of the situation.
A noteworthy aspect of this operation is the retrieval of a substantial cache of weapons, including seven AK-47 rifles and three light machine guns, signalling a significant blow to the Naxal network in the region.
The engagement took place in the Maad area, a hotspot known for Naxal activity, and occurred just days before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by Naxal groups, especially in regions like Kanker, where the security forces continue to engage in proactive measures to maintain peace and security.
As the residents of Kanker gear up for polling on April 26 in the second phase of elections, such operations assume paramount importance in ensuring a safe and conducive electoral environment.

People are arguing that the construction of Ram Mandir goes against the ‘Secular’ ideals of Preamble. My question to them - was India not secular before 1976, the year when the word was added? Bharat was secular long before the concept was even emerged, but just for the sake of the argument, let’s not delve into the history here.
The Constitution, through Art 25 to Art 28, makes India a secular nation. So, if a large sect of the population is exercising their fundamental rights, how does it threaten the secular ideals of the Preamble? Mind you that the Mandir is built after the orders of the Supreme Court, following the Constitution, and the ideals enshrined in the Preamble.
People are also using the words of the Preamble like ‘Justice’, ‘Liberty’, ‘Equality’, and ‘Fraternity’ to support their baseless agenda. In a welfare state set-up, these words refer to Socio-economic Democracy, which is backed by Political Democracy (‘Sovereign’, ‘Socialist’, ‘Secular’, ‘Democratic’, ‘Republic’).&nbsp;
You tell me, how does the second largest majority do not enjoy socio-economic democracy? Is the State discriminating against them through its laws or policies? Did the State pass the RamJanmabhoomi Judgement? Is the State interfering in their religious aspects? The answer is No!
On the contrary, one can make a solid case that when it comes to practicing religion and personal faith, the second largest majority have more rights (no State control over mosques, but there is State control over temples; the absence of a Uniform Civil Code).
Lastly, the Shri Ram Pran Pratishtha ceremony was a ‘Religious’ event. Therefore, by definition, something religious can not be secular. How can you apply secular logic to a religious event? Would you tolerate if religious logic be applied to something secular?
Now, some might say, if it was a religious event, then how can a politician/PM can take part? The answer is simple – construction of Ram Mandir was in BJP’s manifesto. They promised it to the voters. Is there anything wrong in fulfilling promises? PM Modi is also the supremo of BJP, and more importantly, Ram Mandir is an important religious cause for him too. Does he not have the right to exercise his fundamental rights, and practice his faith? He is also a citizen of Bharat.
