The Revanna family, prominent in Karnataka politics, finds itself embroiled in fresh legal woes following a recent complaint filed by a youth. The complaint alleges the abduction of the youth’s mother, triggered by a video purportedly showing her being tied up and assaulted, allegedly by Prajwal Revanna, son of former minister H D Revanna.

The case was officially registered on Thursday night by local authorities. H D Revanna, a sitting JD(S) MLA representing the Holenarasipura constituency in Hassan, comes from a politically influential lineage as the son of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and elder brother to former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. Prajwal Revanna, currently serving as the JD(S) MP for Hassan, faces allegations of misconduct and has been the subject of intense scrutiny in recent times.

Amidst mounting concerns, the state government has taken action by constituting a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into the allegations surrounding Prajwal Revanna, particularly related to explicit video content that has circulated widely, purportedly involving the 33-year-old MP.

These developments come in the wake of Prajwal's participation as the NDA candidate in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls for the Hassan constituency, held on April 26. JD(S), the party to which Prajwal Revanna belongs, had entered into an alliance with the NDA in September the previous year.

Notably, prior to this recent case, a complaint of molestation had already been lodged against the father-son duo at the Holenarasipura police station. As per statements by the state Home Minister G Parameshwara, an additional complaint was lodged on Wednesday night. The latest complaint, registered on Thursday night, is filed by a 20-year-old resident of Krishnaraja Nagar town in Mysuru district.

The complainant alleges that his mother, who had previously worked at Revanna's residence in Holenarasipura six years ago before returning to her hometown three years back, was forcibly taken away by Revanna's associate, Sathish Babanna. The complainant claims that Babanna warned them not to disclose any information to the police and later coerced his mother into leaving with him on a motorcycle on April 29.

According to the complainant, he received distressing news on May 1, when friends informed him of a video circulating online depicting his mother tied up and allegedly assaulted by Prajwal Revanna. Fearing for his mother's safety, he approached the police for assistance in locating her whereabouts.

In response, the K R Nagar police under the Mysuru Rural sub-division have registered a case against H D Revanna and Sathish Babanna for offenses including kidnapping, wrongful confinement, and conspiracy. The investigation into these serious allegations is now underway.
